Eyes that bled grief part 5

The following is an original short story and I will upload parts of it as I write it. Enjoy!

Ch5: The power of the mind

‘’Come in!’’, a female voice was heard behind the door right across Saika’s office. The master had sent the black haired woman on her first lesson in order to control her so called powers. Her tutor was right across the hallway. She opened the door and her blue eyes peeked inside hesitantly.
‘’Ah, yes! The new one!’’, a brunette approached her with a wide smile on her face, her chestnut eyes shining. Mainda walked in the spacious room and took it all in. On her right hand was an office, while on her left hand was a matted corner, like a training place for martial arts.
‘’I am Linda Smith! I have been here the longest, besides Mister Turner. I am responsible for teaching you the basics of mind manipulation.’’, she began and paced back towards her office. She leaned her on the desk and crossed her arms over her chest, her long, tight braid falling behind her back. She wore a tight, long-sleeved, white shirt and sweatpants. The woman looked extremely well-conditioned, like an athlete and was as tall as master Saika. But, even though she claimed to have been here long enough, she didn’t even look forty.
‘’What is this mind manipulation?’’, Mainda asked, feeling nervous for standing across her, since she gave off an energetic, ready to fight, aura.
‘’When our master brought us back, he merely malfunctioned our brain and therefore our nervous system and entire body. It gives our brain hyper abilities.’’, she began explaining and the black-haired woman kept her attention on the brunet the best she could, already overwhelmed by the previous information.
‘’First things first. You will live way longer than the average human. No one knows how much that is for each person, but I for example am about a hundred and twelve years old.’’, Mainda’s blue eyes widened in shock. ‘’Also you can use your brain to read the thoughts of common folk if you practice long enough. You also have a better understanding of everything and an enormous memory capacity. In general you become smarter.’’ Mainda nodded and tried to take it all in.
‘’You can use your heightened brain power to your liking, but I am here to keep others safe from you, as the most important gift provided by our master is, the mind manipulation.’’, she added and took a red, small, stress ball from her luxurious office surface. She threw it towards Mainda and she caught it instinctively.
‘’Throw it back to me.’’, she ordered. Mainda frowned and obeyed the order. Before the ball landed on Linda it froze in mid-air, as if a force kept it there. Then it flew off to the side on its own.
‘’What the?’’, Mainda mumbled and the brunette smirked.
‘’With the power of your mind you can basically control things around you, including your own body mass. It depends on your power and the amount of practice you put in. The first lessons will be related with suppression of involuntary power use, so that you can actually leave the house.’’ Mainda nodded, already looking forward to it.
For the following hours the brunette tried to teach Mainda a way to meditate and focus her brain energy in a single spot in the room. It was a plastic bottle of water. Mainda had to knock the bottle without crushing it, or making it explode. When the lesson was over, she hadn’t managed to achieve the goal, and only squashed the bottle again and again, Linda having to reshape it with her own abilities. Mainda was going to keep training for the next few days constantly, stopping only to eat and sleep.
Taking a break for lunch was going to be equally challenging, since the newcomer had to walk upstairs and into the busy living room and kitchen, where the ones living with master discussed and hung out. She managed to locate the redhead she saw before, sitting nonchalantly by the fire, as well as the rude boy. He had been talking loudly with another male, a bit older than him and they seemed on the verge of arguing. The brunette younger male was looking tense, but the other guy, a black-haired man with a long ponytail, kept rolling his green eyes to the back of his skull, as if denying to hear any words from the rude one.
Mainda approached the kitchen, where she saw the elder male she met first, Emil, preparing food, accompanied by a female, dressed in casual clothing. As soon as she walked in, the blonde woman turned around to see her. She was middle aged and had soft and gentle characteristics. Her chestnut eyes focused on her face and she gave the newcomer a wide smile.
‘’Ah, you must be having a break from the training right?’’, she asked and Mainda merely nodded. ‘’Lunch will be done soon enough. Relax by the fire, while we finish up.’’, she added and Mainda followed her instructions, already feeling tensed up for having to walk back into the living room, where the younger male caused chaos with his voice.
During lunch, everyone Mainda had seen, joined around the table, including master Saika. From the comments she heard, it wasn’t regular for him to join them. She also got to know who the other two were. The blonde woman was Katherine and the long haired male was Issah. Each person had their own lives around this town, working jobs they liked, or having various hobbies. The house was in the center of London, a few hours flight away from Mainda’s original home. She could either chose to return to her place or try to make a life of her own here, like these people had. The newcomer had some time to think it through, until her basic training was over.
The following days were spent in training and Mainda managed to control the power of her mind up to a degree. Day after day, she repeated the motions, ignoring the rest of the house that emptied and filled by the same characters. She managed to get to know them a bit better, but rarely interacted with anyone, apart from her trainer, who she got to like a lot. On the sixth day of her stay in the London flat, she got called in Saika’s office, instead of the training room. The newcomer hadn’t seen the so called master from the first day she got here. When she walked in the room, she found him seated nonchalantly behind his desk, his fingers crossed, arms relaxed over the surface of the desk. For such an important person, he inspired nothing but calmness and perhaps some respect at that moment.
‘’Master Saika.’’, the woman spoke and sat across him, eager to hear his words.
‘’Linda has informed me of your progress.’’, he began speaking with his deep, heavy voice and the female couldn’t help but think back on his singing the first time she saw him. ‘’You are now able to repress your brain power. This means that you are free to do as you wish.’’, he announced and Mainda smiled and nodded.
‘’Thank you master.’’, she uttered and he chuckled and leaned back.
‘’So what are you planning to do?’’, he asked her and her expression fell into a frown, her mind working once more on her final decision. She wanted to return, what else could she do at that point?
‘’You can either return to your previous life or stay here with some of my followers who made the same choice.’’, he presented her own thoughts.
‘’I want to see my friends again, but… I am not the same…’’, she mumbled and lowered her gaze, expressing the thoughts gnawing her mind.
‘’Indeed you are not. Should you remain here you can continue your training and actually do something for others.’’, he spoke once more and Mainda lifted her eyes and narrowed them. She had never heard that before. The male didn’t lose his smirk.
‘’The people living here do not just hang out and do their hobbies. They do missions for me and hone their abilities they best they can to become a powerful fighting force.’’, he explained and the woman felt her chest tighten. She could be so much more than just a cook. Sure she could do that here in London as well, but she could do even more. She wanted to do more. The only people left behind in her hometown were a handful of friends and a few relatives she rarely spoke to. The decision was hard to take, but she wasn’t a simple human anymore.
Promise me Mainda. Promise you will keep on living. Make something of yourself. Become the best you can., the words echoed in her head again, her brother’s final words. She was going to follow his plea.
‘’I will stay in London.’’
