Ch4: Explanations
The newcomer female followed the so called master, the one who had killed her and brought her back with all her functions restored, down a set of stairs. She got the chance to see the rest of the house, which was like a big apartment. The floor below had another living room and kitchen, the space a bit more open. Yet it felt like no one lived here. A double door was on one side, the exit. Mainda swallowed hard, wondering if she was allowed to leave anymore. She focused on the man’s broad back in front of her and followed him through the kitchen and through another door, where another hallway was, this one way gloomier than the one upstairs. There were four doors there and Saika led her through the one on the far left.
She was pleasantly surprised to enter a small, yet luxurious office. A heavy wooden desk was in the middle of it and huge locked cabinets and libraries to the side. A closed laptop and a few papers and agendas were positioned on the desk. Behind the office chair was a large window, letting the sun in. Saika sat on the chair and nodded with his chin towards the chairs to the front. Mainda hesitantly sat there, feeling her heart beat fast in her chest. She had no idea what was going to happen with her life now, and what that deal actually meant.
‘’You have many questions…’’, he spoke and leaned back, crossing his fingers over his legs. He kept an indifferent expression. ‘’Let’s begin with those.’’, he added and all of a sudden, Mainda’s mind emptied. She took in a ragged breath and tried to recompose herself.
‘’First of all… Who are you really?’’ The man gave her a smirk and chuckled.
‘’I have been given many names throughout my years of living on this damned rock we call Earth. You can call me Master Saika.’’, he replied and the woman frowned, not at all satisfied with his answer. The male rose a brow and kept smirking.
‘’This world is built and destroyed by people with great power and their followers. We have been called God’s prophets, but we ourselves have no idea why we keep roaming this earth. We are creatures gifted with the ability to destroy and rebuilt everyone and everything. Yet the people we affect with our powers become tied to us with an unbreakable bond. You, my dear, are bound to do as I demand.’’, he explained and Mainda remained frozen.
‘’We?’’
‘’Ah yes… I am not the only one with this ability. We were born around the same time, but there are ten us. Each one with their own set of followers.’’, he replied. The woman exhaled and shut her eyes, trying her best to take it all in.
‘’What does this mean for me?’’, she asked once more, the question mostly related to her. The man smiled again and leaned over the table, his elbows on the wooden surface.
‘’It means you can’t help but obey me. You are free to roam around this world as you wish, but should I ask something of you, you must do it.’’, he replied and his words felt somewhat relieving. She was relatively able to keep living a life she likes, as long as she is in contact with this so called master. Yet what troubled her was the fact that there were more people like him and even more people like her. She wondered what it meant for this world and how these powerful beings, able to toy with the human life, affected the earth and its history.
‘’You seem very troubled and it is expected…’’, he began and she pursed her lips.
‘’Master Saika…’’, she spoke, trying to get a feel of the way she had to speak to this man. It was strange indeed, but she had to get used to it. ‘’Does this mean that I can leave this place right now and return to my home and job?’’, she asked and the man sighed.
‘’I have covered your tracks in the hospital and they all know you have left all patched up, never a neurological issue with you. You can return to your life, like I told you, but…’’, he replied and Mainda felt rejoiced to hear his words, yet she expected for some sort of drawback in all this. ‘’You must first learn to control the powers that came along when you made a deal with me.’’
‘’Powers?’’, she blurted out, utterly dumbfounded.
‘’Your mind has been altered, heightened. You are a different human being now and you can use your brain power to achieve great things. You will have to be trained, before I let you get out there.’’, he explained and the woman felt overwhelmed. Another question popped up and she couldn’t help herself.
‘’Why me?’’ Saika’s reaction caught her off guard. The man threw his head back and barked a loud laughter before focusing on her again.
‘’I just felt like it.’’
