Ch.20: Eyes that bled grief
Bermuda was a unique island and the happy faces of the tourists and locals around them, forced a fake relief and relaxation upon Mainda. They had an hour to spare until their helicopter was ready to use. Everything was done in secrecy, both the apostle having to use fake identities as a filthy rich, capricious couple that wanted a ride with a helicopter over the waters near the island. Their masters had taken care of all the details and the coast was clear for them. Even when Mainda sat on the passenger’s seat beside Tori, who was going to fly the helicopter, it felt like she went on a vacation with him. She had somehow managed to shove all terror in the back of her head, especially after the moments they had shared the previous night.
‘’Weather seems clear for now!’’, Tori spoke over the sound of the chopper and Mainda nodded, even though the male couldn’t see her. She was more than happy to experience such gentle heat and sun beside the man she loved, moments before the toughest mission that could cost her life.
‘’We will be arriving in forty five minutes.’’, he added and the woman felt her breath hitch in her throat. She glanced at him and noticed his grey eyes focusing on her with a serious expression. A smile was forced on her face, in her effort to soften his features as well.
Time went by faster than she wanted and the moment the small island appeared in the horizon, the hairs on the back of her neck lifted. The negative energy of the manifestation, hiding in these rocks the size of a football field, expressed aggressively as soon as they entered a three mile radius.
‘’Can you feel that?’’, she asked, trying to keep her sanity as she was in the verge of a panic attack, all induced by the manifestation.
‘’Yes I can.’’, he spoke and the female felt a warm hand on top of hers. She relaxed immediately, as if Tori’s presence was able to repel all the negativity. ‘’Get ready. We fight as soon as I land.’’, he added and she noticed him, with the corner of her eyes, bring his palm near his mouth, giving her a very attractive smile before biting down on his skin, drawing blood and creating the crimson armor, hiding his handsome features with the mask. Mainda copied him and prepared herself mentally for the battle. When they got closer to the rocks, the manifestation appeared, from the stone, as if it hand been hiding beneath the sea. Mainda gritted her teeth and as soon as the chopper landed on the rocks, both the apostles jumped out of it. The manifestation took the form of large black clouds, contrasting with the bright sun beaming down on them. It rose to the sky and covered the entire island, barely allowing any light through. Large thorns shot from the sky and the apostles run around in panic, in order to avoid them. It was too fast, too strong, too intense.
‘’We must locate its source so that I can absorb it!’’, Tori spoke up and Mainda did her best to locate the largest concentration of energy, where the source was. The manifestation made no effort to take a humanoid form in order to attack them. The thorns that fell from the sky where the best way for it to fight back after all. The female apostle run around the rocks, managing to reflect most of the thorns, while the ones passing through did minimal damage, thanks to the crimson armor. They had to destroy it though, as they wouldn’t be able to hold on much longer with the speed and aggressiveness of the battle.
‘’I found it!’’, the female yelled as soon as she jumped beneath the rocks at the center of the island. The source of the manifestation was hidden beneath the sharp stones and Tori would have to climb down, into the small salty pools of water that crashed onto the island.
The male appeared above her head, raising his hand in order to deflect a thorn the size of a calf that aimed for him. His grey eyes fell on Mainda’s blue ones and he jumped down. The woman had a hard time focusing that very moment, the realization of what was about to happen dawned upon her once more. She had to shake the nervousness off though, as Tori climbed into the small opening, getting in contact with the source of energy.
Just then, everything around her froze. The dark clouds dispersed in a split second, revealing a clear blue sky, letting the sun fall over the stones and the female. She took a step back, as the energy pulsated and gathered up, entering the male apostle’s physical body and tainting his own energy. Tori had his back on her, his body shaking from the ferocity of the energy, which was nothing like others they had experienced. Mainda had to attack him as soon as possible, to release and destroy it, hoping that he would make it out alive. She had to hurry, knowing well how much he suffered at that very moment.
The female apostle charged at him, her right forearm extended, about to land an attack on his back. She was stopped abruptly when he turned and deflected her with his own blade, pushing her away. She cursed under her breath, expecting this to happen after all. Tori’s eyes looked dead, as if he wasn’t in control of his body.
Mainda had no time to process what was happening as he dashed to attack her with incredible speed and force. She managed to deflect him, but the attack pushed her back, making her bones tremble. He kept on aiming his blades on her again and again with great force and Mainda held back every time, trying to find an opening while keeping up with his speed as he run around her. Tori had never looked that threatening before and the energy of the manifestation enhanced his stamina.
It only took a second of absentmindedness and Mainda felt a sharp pain on her left thigh, where he had managed to pierce through. She gritted her teeth and tried to put some space between them, but she was unsuccessful. A cry of pain escaped her lungs, as with the next attack, he managed to slice her left forearm off. Blood gushed out of the severed limb and the burning sensation of pain made her dizzy. Hot tears fell down her eyes, desperation clouding her brain. She had to succeed, they had to pull this through.
When she turned around her life flashed over her widened eyes, the male’s blade aiming for her head.
‘’Tori…’’, she mumbled and the blade stopped inches away from her nose. Suddenly the male began breathing loudly and shaking. The crimson armor on his body cracked everywhere and revealed his body and face. He fell on his knees, his widened eyes glancing all over her body, focusing on the wounds he had caused her.
‘’I can’t…. hold it…back…’’, he struggled to speak and his arms rose to his head, his eyes shutting in pain. ‘’Kill me!’’, he screamed from the top of his lungs and Mainda felt her crimson armor crumbling away as well.
‘’Kill me!’’, he yelled again and grunted in pain, throwing his fists on the floor, obviously in physical pain. Mainda used the blood running from her severed arm to form a blade. She crawled near him and hugged him, feeling his trembling body. With the blade, she pierced through his torso again and again, the manifestation exploding in outbursts of black clouds from his body, the energy burning onto Mainda like fire, melting away her skin. The apostle was in pain, but she kept on attacking him until all the energy had been dispersed.
The sun beamed down on the apostle pair, one of them bleeding from numerus wounds on his body, heaving from the pain and exhaustion of having the manifestation inside of him, the other bleeding from her severed arm and wounded thigh, the burns of the negative energy had deformed parts of her. Mainda was seated and Tori was laying over her lap, looking up at her, a faint smile forming on his lips, mirroring her own.
‘’That… was… easy…’’, he uttered under his breath, his chest rising and falling with every breath. The woman managed a tired laugh, her eyes already closing, her consciousness leaving her. She was content for succeeding, but in need of rest. The sensation of complete darkness had taken over her before, but this time she welcomed it. Her hand stroked his cheek and he brought his own hand over hers.
‘’See you on the other side….’’, Mainda uttered and let herself go, falling over Tori who had stopped breathing.
Promise me Mainda. Promise you will keep on living.

Ch.19: A pair of souls
The details of the mission had been provided and in a few hour’s time Mainda and Tori were going to begin their journey to Bermuda, a destination that could mean their death. Mainda felt rusty all over, her throat closed up from the intensity, as is someone had been chocking her from the inside. The two apostles had been walking up the stairs in silence, avoiding each other’s eyes, perhaps in fear that their thoughts might spill out of them.
‘’I guess we shouldn’t speak to anyone about this.’’, Tori mumbled and sighed deeply before stopping in the middle of the staircase. The dim light entering through the shades, barely landed on the male’s complexion, his expression showed nothing but struggle to contain his emotions.
‘’Tori?’’, the female mumbled and approached him, his grey eyes avoiding hers.
‘’I want you to make it out alive from this mission.’’, he muttered through his teeth and tightened his fist so hard, that his veins protruded painfully. Mainda furrowed her brows and touched his tightened fist with her smaller hands, making him look into her blue eyes.
‘’If you are going down, I am going down with you.’’, the female spoke up and his eyes widened in shock. ‘’You should know that already.’’
‘’I will not accept it!’’, he suddenly grunted through his teeth and the female apostle blinked in surprise. She had never seen this happy go lucky man turn that dark. It shook her. ‘’I promised Koro he would get to keep his sister.’’, he added and brought his hand up to rub his face. Mainda pursed her lips in discontent.
‘’We all know what we are.’’, she told him and he chuckled. ‘’When I heard about this mission I was terrified to my very core. Not because of my own death, but because of yours.’’, Tori glared at her, while she gave him a bitter smile. ‘’Do you get it now? We are all worried for others and not ourselves, for we know that our lives are not our own, but our master’s. We must succeed in this mission no matter the cost.’’, she added. Tori lowered his gaze with a troubled frown. Mainda chuckled and cupped his face with her hand making him face her again before giving him a brief kiss on the lips.
‘’It would be my honor to die beside you.’’ The male widened his eyes at her words once more, still in disbelief of the way things turned out. He hugged her tightly and after taking a few minutes to recompose themselves, they headed upstairs to meet the rest of the followers.
An odd silence casted over the room as the apostles entered. Mainda’s eyes fell on her brother, his tanned complexion already showing signs of grave concern.
‘’Are they done?’’, Linda exclaimed, peeking her head out of the kitchen with a wooden ladle in her hand.
‘’Yeah they will be joining us soon enough.’’, the female apostle replied and approached her in order to assist with the preparations. Apart from the followers of the other masters, in the house also was Linda, Tristy and Issah. The rest had been out and about for missions and the preparations for the dinner and hosting the guests had fallen on the three of them. As soon as she stepped into the kitchen, Mainda felt the familiar piercing gaze of Issah fall on her. He had been preparing the platters alongside Tristy, but his attention shifted on the apostle. When their eyes met, Mainda frowned. There was nothing but honest concern there. Once again this man’s behavior confused her.
‘’Mainda, I want to speak with you.’’, she suddenly heard her brother behind her and turned to face him. She wanted to avoid this, but there was no way to do so.
‘’What is it Koro?’’
‘’When are you leaving?’’, he asked, his brows furrowed into a frown.
‘’In a few hours.’’, she replied, her stomach already turning for having to abandon him.
‘’I see…’’, he mumbled. ‘’Please get back in one piece.’’, he added and moved in to hug her. The female froze for a split second, unable to form words. She hugged him back and gave him a hesitant smile. When she turned to help the others, Issah still had her eyes on her, as if trying to express a message silently.
The dinner was a seemingly pleasant one and both the apostles who were about to leave for the mission, managed to act in a way that didn’t give out the possibility of them not making it back. Mainda did her best to think of it just like any other mission, since they were all dangerous after all. That night, the female decided not to sit in her room, alone. As soon as everyone headed for their respective rooms, she snuck out and approached one of the guest rooms. Her head was turning from the decisiveness that felt unreal to her, as she knocked on the door. When it opened, she met a half-naked Tori, rubbing on his eyes with the knuckles of his right hand. His well-built torso was exposed, revealing a number of scars, and his blonde hair was as messy as ever, making him look like a giant porcupine.
‘’Huh, Mainda?’’, he mumbled, still seeming lost. The female mustered all the courage she had, wondering why it had been easier for her to fight manifestations, than hit on a man she liked. She took a step in, making him step back and shut the door behind her. The male began to realize and widened his eyes, before a gentle blush appeared on his fair skin, contradicting his masculine features.
‘’I want to spent this night with you.’’, she mumbled and lowered her eyes. The male took a sharp breath and the next second she felt a great force pick her up and press her against the closed door behind her. Rough hands caressed her body, making her shiver profusely, and lips landed on her neck hungrily, biting, sucking on her skin, building up heat inside of her.
He carried her to the bed and hovered on top of her, their hands travelling onto each other hungrily, their lips meeting again and again in passionate kisses. No moment was wasted, their feelings for one another, the uncontrollable lust, was above their own control. The possibility of their death brought them closer, destroying all barriers they had. It was a night for the two of them, for their souls to connect through passion. Come tomorrow, their lives would be their masters’ once more, but for a few moments they gifted them to one another.

Ch.18: The curse of Cheops
Mainda and Tori had been standing just outside the main entrance of the great pyramid of Giza, the pyramid of Cheops. The starry night spread above their heads and the chaos of modern Cairo sounded too far off. Mainda took deep breaths of the sandy dessert, realizing how much it resembled a sandy seaside. No tourists were left there, but only a few guards and caretakers of the archeological site. Nur had been discussing in Arabic with a guard who had brought the three apostles near the great pyramid. As soon as they were done, her black eyes turned to face the two other apostles and with a nod of her head they followed behind her and into the narrow hallway of the pyramid. As soon as they stepped through, the stuffy scent of the enclosed space brought the apostle slight discomfort, tight spaces wasn’t her forte. She pressed her lips on a firm line, as they followed Nur, almost in single file, deep into the pyramid.
‘’The manifestation lies in the queen’s chamber, in the lower part of the structure.’’, Nur commented and it just occurred to Mainda that they had been gradually descending. It was tough to tell, the way the pyramid was built. ‘’I hope you are ready. My mistress has been waiting for a pair to appear in order to destroy this manifestation.’’, she added and my eyes glanced back to face the blonde apostle, his face cracked in an ironic smile, that made the woman shake in her very core. She tried to focus, as the end of the hallway became visible and the sensation of the manifestation suddenly became evident.
When they walked in the tight space of the queen’s chamber, the darkness unveiled fully, as it would at the presence of followers. A dark mass covered the ruins of the tomb and whirled around threateningly, still not making an effort to attack.
‘’Odd.’’, Tori spoke and stood next to Mainda. ‘’It doesn’t feel aggressive.’’ Nur chuckled at his words.
‘’Because it isn’t.’’, she replied and took two steps near the mass, which was double the size of a person, but the amount of energy it produced was frightening to say the least. Yet, Mainda hadn’t felt it up till the last moment. ‘’This manifestation has been here for so many years and it isn’t aggressive at all. It just increases in size and threatens to affect the mentality of humans, as it develops. The mean reason for our inability to destroy it isn’t its power, but its lack of aggression. If it won’t attack, it won’t be attacked in the same way other manifestations did.’’, she added and in Mainda’s mind resurfaced a lesson her master had given her, concerning the different types of manifestations. This was similar to the manifestation that infiltrated people’s bodies to the point that they had to be killed in order to be destroyed. It explained why they wanted Tori to defeat it. The apostle focused her blue eyes on the male with a concerned expression. He was frowning, but as soon as he noticed her eyeing him, he smiled.
‘’Let’s do it.’’, he commented and took a few steps near the remnants of the tomb. Maida shivered, feeling hesitant of what was about to come. She immediately straightened up and prepared for battle. The male bit on the palm of his hand and she copied him. The crimson armor covered them both in no time. He turned his head to face her and upon witnessing the determination in his grey eyes she nodded. He turned up front and Mainda created the blades on each side of her forearms.
Tori stretched out his hand and the manifestation took a liking to him, immediately increasing in size and getting in contact with his crimson armor. Mainda heard a draw of breath beside her and turned her gaze for a split second on Nur, noticing her shocked expression at the sight. She understood her completely, since she had a similar reaction the first time this had happened. In a matter of seconds the entire mass of the manifestation, along with the disturbing energy it emitted, entered Tori’s body and took over his own energy, coating the outside of his body with a black cloud. The male grunted and took sharp breaths, obviously fighting to remain in control.
When he turned around to face his apostle pair, Tori’s grey eyes seemed dull and nearly dead. He remained stationary for a couple seconds and the female hesitated, expecting him to call onto her like the last time.
‘’What are you waiting for?’’, Nur spoke up, nervousness hinted in her voice. Mainda pursed her lips behind her mask and with a quick dash went in for the attack, aiming for his torso, trying to avoid any vital organs, while channeling her brain power through the blade she was about to use. She felt her entire body shake, when her blade was stopped by a great force. Her eyes widened at the sight of Tori, with his own blades now out, taking a fighting stance and deflecting her. He pushed her back, making her feel the extent of his power, as she flew a few meters in the air and crashed against one of the walls behind. Mainda felt the air escape her lungs, mostly because of the unexpected manner of the attack. She fell on the floor, landing on her feet and immediately stood up, searching for the male with her eyes.
‘’Tori?’’, she spoke up and his grey eyes focused on her, but with a thirst and maliciousness she had never seen before. It made her wonder what kind of expression he hid beneath the mask.
Before she could even process the situation, the male apostle charged in to attack her, clearly ignoring the other female in the room. Mainda braced herself and parried his attacks, her mind getting foggy from the way the situation had unfolded. One thing was clear: Tori had lost control of the manifestation and it now moved his body like a puppet.
‘’Fight back! He is still in there! You still have to land an attack!’’, Nur shouted from the back of the room, frustrated with the situation herself. Mainda cursed under her breath and tried to recall all the fighting lessons she had with her master. Tori might be a very strong apostle, but the manifestation that took over him had no idea how the human body worked, and that showed in the delayed moves he made. She had to attack him before it got comfortable.
The female apostle took the chance and as soon as another hit aimed at her she ducked to avoid it and made a turn to find herself behind Tori. She focused her energy on that one shot and pierced through the right side of his back with her blade, putting her raw force on the hit and standing onto the male’s body. Time seemed to freeze for a few moments, the only thing sounding was Tori’s ragged breathing. He was face down on the ground, the female on top of him with the crimson blade still through his flesh.
‘’M..more..’’, his voice sounded weakly, making Mainda widen her eyes in shock. ‘’Again… Confine me and attack again…’’, he managed under his breath and the female gritted her teeth.
‘’I am sorry…’’, she said firmly, knowing well that they had to see this mission through, but still feeling guilty for having to attack him again and again.
‘’I can assist you.’’, Nur spoke and just then Mainda realized that she had approached them.
‘’I can’t…hold on.’’, Tori grunted and the female apostle pair felt a force built up from inside of him. He began squirming, as if ready to get up.
‘’Get back!’’, Nur yelled and Mainda trusted her order, jumping from his back. The next second, a mass of crimson chains tied him up, keeping him in place even through his squirms and aggressive grunts. Nur had drawn blood and her choice of weapon seemed to be these odd chains that were able to hold Tori down, along with the manifestation.
The females’ eyes met, blue mirroring black and they both nodded. Mainda walked up to the male and began piercing though his body with her blade, every attack intensified his grunts and screams of pain as the manifestation erupted again and again, releasing energy, getting destroyed. She felt her very soul shiver in embarrassment and self-hate for doing that to him.
When the black fog had been lifted, all remnants of the energy gone, what was left behind was a man, still strong enough to remain conscious. Nur retracted her chains and the crimson armors disappeared. When Mainda approached Tori, his grey eyes looked up at her with their usual liveliness. He smiled tiredly and nodded, forcing Mainda to hold her tears back, tears that had built up from the intensity of her actions.
‘’Good job, partner.’’, he mumbled and she chuckled.
‘’Yeah. Good job.’’
