Ch.20: Eyes that bled grief
Bermuda was a
unique island and the happy faces of the tourists and locals around them,
forced a fake relief and relaxation upon Mainda. They had an hour to spare
until their helicopter was ready to use. Everything was done in secrecy, both
the apostle having to use fake identities as a filthy rich, capricious couple
that wanted a ride with a helicopter over the waters near the island. Their
masters had taken care of all the details and the coast was clear for them.
Even when Mainda sat on the passenger’s seat beside Tori, who was going to fly
the helicopter, it felt like she went on a vacation with him. She had somehow
managed to shove all terror in the back of her head, especially after the
moments they had shared the previous night.
‘’Weather seems
clear for now!’’, Tori spoke over the sound of the chopper and Mainda nodded,
even though the male couldn’t see her. She was more than happy to experience such
gentle heat and sun beside the man she loved, moments before the toughest
mission that could cost her life.
‘’We will be
arriving in forty five minutes.’’, he added and the woman felt her breath hitch
in her throat. She glanced at him and noticed his grey eyes focusing on her
with a serious expression. A smile was forced on her face, in her effort to
soften his features as well.
Time went by
faster than she wanted and the moment the small island appeared in the horizon,
the hairs on the back of her neck lifted. The negative energy of the
manifestation, hiding in these rocks the size of a football field, expressed
aggressively as soon as they entered a three mile radius.
‘’Can you feel
that?’’, she asked, trying to keep her sanity as she was in the verge of a
panic attack, all induced by the manifestation.
‘’Yes I can.’’, he
spoke and the female felt a warm hand on top of hers. She relaxed immediately,
as if Tori’s presence was able to repel all the negativity. ‘’Get ready. We
fight as soon as I land.’’, he added and she noticed him, with the corner of
her eyes, bring his palm near his mouth, giving her a very attractive smile
before biting down on his skin, drawing blood and creating the crimson armor,
hiding his handsome features with the mask. Mainda copied him and prepared
herself mentally for the battle. When they got closer to the rocks, the manifestation
appeared, from the stone, as if it hand been hiding beneath the sea. Mainda
gritted her teeth and as soon as the chopper landed on the rocks, both the
apostles jumped out of it. The manifestation took the form of large black
clouds, contrasting with the bright sun beaming down on them. It rose to the
sky and covered the entire island, barely allowing any light through. Large
thorns shot from the sky and the apostles run around in panic, in order to
avoid them. It was too fast, too strong, too intense.
‘’We must locate
its source so that I can absorb it!’’, Tori spoke up and Mainda did her best to
locate the largest concentration of energy, where the source was. The
manifestation made no effort to take a humanoid form in order to attack them.
The thorns that fell from the sky where the best way for it to fight back after
all. The female apostle run around the rocks, managing to reflect most of the
thorns, while the ones passing through did minimal damage, thanks to the
crimson armor. They had to destroy it though, as they wouldn’t be able to hold
on much longer with the speed and aggressiveness of the battle.
‘’I found it!’’,
the female yelled as soon as she jumped beneath the rocks at the center of the
island. The source of the manifestation was hidden beneath the sharp stones and
Tori would have to climb down, into the small salty pools of water that crashed
onto the island.
The male appeared
above her head, raising his hand in order to deflect a thorn the size of a calf
that aimed for him. His grey eyes fell on Mainda’s blue ones and he jumped
down. The woman had a hard time focusing that very moment, the realization of
what was about to happen dawned upon her once more. She had to shake the
nervousness off though, as Tori climbed into the small opening, getting in
contact with the source of energy.
Just then,
everything around her froze. The dark clouds dispersed in a split second,
revealing a clear blue sky, letting the sun fall over the stones and the
female. She took a step back, as the energy pulsated and gathered up, entering
the male apostle’s physical body and tainting his own energy. Tori had his back
on her, his body shaking from the ferocity of the energy, which was nothing
like others they had experienced. Mainda had to attack him as soon as possible,
to release and destroy it, hoping that he would make it out alive. She had to
hurry, knowing well how much he suffered at that very moment.
The female apostle
charged at him, her right forearm extended, about to land an attack on his back.
She was stopped abruptly when he turned and deflected her with his own blade,
pushing her away. She cursed under her breath, expecting this to happen after
all. Tori’s eyes looked dead, as if he wasn’t in control of his body.
Mainda had no time
to process what was happening as he dashed to attack her with incredible speed
and force. She managed to deflect him, but the attack pushed her back, making
her bones tremble. He kept on aiming his blades on her again and again with
great force and Mainda held back every time, trying to find an opening while
keeping up with his speed as he run around her. Tori had never looked that
threatening before and the energy of the manifestation enhanced his stamina.
It only took a
second of absentmindedness and Mainda felt a sharp pain on her left thigh,
where he had managed to pierce through. She gritted her teeth and tried to put
some space between them, but she was unsuccessful. A cry of pain escaped her
lungs, as with the next attack, he managed to slice her left forearm off. Blood
gushed out of the severed limb and the burning sensation of pain made her
dizzy. Hot tears fell down her eyes, desperation clouding her brain. She had to
succeed, they had to pull this through.
When she turned
around her life flashed over her widened eyes, the male’s blade aiming for her
head.
‘’Tori…’’, she
mumbled and the blade stopped inches away from her nose. Suddenly the male
began breathing loudly and shaking. The crimson armor on his body cracked
everywhere and revealed his body and face. He fell on his knees, his widened
eyes glancing all over her body, focusing on the wounds he had caused her.
‘’I can’t…. hold
it…back…’’, he struggled to speak and his arms rose to his head, his eyes
shutting in pain. ‘’Kill me!’’, he screamed from the top of his lungs and
Mainda felt her crimson armor crumbling away as well.
‘’Kill me!’’, he yelled again and grunted in
pain, throwing his fists on the floor, obviously in physical pain. Mainda used
the blood running from her severed arm to form a blade. She crawled near him
and hugged him, feeling his trembling body. With the blade, she pierced through
his torso again and again, the manifestation exploding in outbursts of black
clouds from his body, the energy burning onto Mainda like fire, melting away
her skin. The apostle was in pain, but she kept on attacking him until all the
energy had been dispersed.
The sun beamed
down on the apostle pair, one of them bleeding from numerus wounds on his body,
heaving from the pain and exhaustion of having the manifestation inside of him,
the other bleeding from her severed arm and wounded thigh, the burns of the
negative energy had deformed parts of her. Mainda was seated and Tori was
laying over her lap, looking up at her, a faint smile forming on his lips,
mirroring her own.
‘’That… was…
easy…’’, he uttered under his breath, his chest rising and falling with every
breath. The woman managed a tired laugh, her eyes already closing, her
consciousness leaving her. She was content for succeeding, but in need of rest.
The sensation of complete darkness had taken over her before, but this time she
welcomed it. Her hand stroked his cheek and he brought his own hand over hers.
‘’See you on the
other side….’’, Mainda uttered and let herself go, falling over Tori who had
stopped breathing.
Promise me Mainda. Promise you
will keep on living.
