A king with no throne

I walked towards the high security prison, determined to receive the information I wanted. After explaining to the guards that I had permission to enter, they let me approach the king’s cell. He sat on the white bedding at the corner of the cell, the walls and metal bars of it were covered with intricate curses, designed to hold him in. When he noticed me walk near him, he crossed his arms over his chest and smiled ironically. He wore the white clothing all prisoners wore and did not seem to have lost his spirit even in the face of death. I frowned lightly and stood right in front of the railings.
‘’What do you want Eserith?’’, every word he spoke was laced with irony.
‘’Is there a way to bring her back?’’, I asked, cutting straight to the chase. He chuckled and I noticed how humane and somehow older he looked, now that his eyes were not red. It looked like ten years were added on him and even his obsidian hair had a few grey strands.
‘’There is.’’

Battle aftermath

I observed my surroundings for quite some time now. The ground was muddy from the blood of the numerous corpses that were either beheaded or dismembered. The heavy smell of death and decomposition filled my nostrils. I scrunched my nose, but the view did not faze me. Death was something I had accepted many years ago. I recalled my parents’ death and feelings I had hid deep in my psyche begun to emerge. It was so much easier to not recall these memories when I was training constantly or completing missions given to me by lord Zein. Loss had hit me hard once more, as I was not sure what had happened to Victoria.

Rushing to battle

From book 2: Era of Wrath (Available on Amazon.com)

‘’The battle has already begun.’’ I frowned and looked at Victoria. She gripped on the hilts of her swords and the next second she dashed out of the clearing and towards the battleground. I followed her, sensing everyone else do so as well. I could smell the bloodbath before I could even hear it. Soon enough the sound of gunshots, thunder roars and blades crushing filled the air. I could distinguish flames and lightning bolts lighting up the forest, altering the color of the sky above. Raindrops fell with a steady pace and the muddy ground made our movements even harder. Victoria’s naked feet were dipped in mud, her face infuriated, her hair stuck on her skin. Yet she seemed the most dangerous she had ever been. I couldn't help but recall her black scales, large wings, sharp horns and the inferno boiling in her lungs. She was nothing less than a dragon.

The importance of Dragons

(Traditional Chinese- style dragons)
(Similar to dragons in my series.)
Dragons have always been my favorite mythical being. It is rare for me, though, to find a series or book that depicts dragons in a way I like. The only exception was Eragon. I loved how dragons acted there. They were intelligent, emotional creatures, just like how I had imagined them.
In my series, Dragon’s Attendants, Dragons are simply called Hedar, a term I created on my own, using a self-made language. Hedar are the creatures closest to Mother Nature. They are the wisest and strongest tribe and possess an inborn thirst to conquer and destroy. Yet they end up becoming the most peaceful tribe there is (the concept of tribes will be explained in book 3).
My protagonist is closely related to dragons and often in denial of her true nature. It expresses the way all of us are in denial of our true intentions in life and our constant struggle to repress our thoughts and feelings, some of us going back and forth between two extremes. Victoria is in a constant battle between the Hedar (Dragon) and the Thamuz (human) side of her. But when she truly accepts both of them, she finds peace within herself.

The first flight

Open your eyes Victoria, I heard her voice, soft as ever, in my head and obliged. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the valley beneath us. We flew above the trees in a fast pace and the warm air caressed my skin. I glanced at the clear blue sky, touching the horizon in front of us and couldn’t help but smile. My hand caressed her black, warm scales that reflected the sunlight.
