Ch.13: My blood
Maida had been sitting in front of a large window in the guest bedroom, starring at the dark sky. Her partner, Issah was next door. She had to rest, since the mission would take place in a few hours’ time, but she couldn’t relax at all. Her mind was filled with questions and excitement for having met her brother. She sighed, her hot breath forming clouds on the glass, her reflection barely visible from the dim light of the nightstand. Her mind drifted back to the details of the mission. There had been an issue of manifestation outbursts in secluded areas of the world, where not enough people lived. It made no sense, since manifestations sourced from the grief and negativity of human beings. The masters suggested that the energy had gathered from neighboring locations overtime and finally expressed, no longer able to hold its stability.
Thanks to her master’s teachings, Mainda was able to understand well the way energy worked. Manifestations usually expressed during full moon, the magnetic waves of the moon affecting the mood of human beings and the quality and aggressiveness of the energy around the globe. Tomorrow it would be full moon once more and the way that specific manifestation had been building up, was concerning. Master Ikrov himself had visited it, trying to contain it to that specific location until he had discussed the problem with master Saika. It was near the borders of the masters’ providence and therefore an issue for both of them. The apostle wondered if it was really needed for her and another one at her level to work together to destroy it, or if the masters simply wanted to give them some practice since both she and Tori where fresh apostles. Tori had been a follower for over a decade, but only recently managed to become an apostle, the details of the reason why were unknown.
A knock on her door, pulled the black-haired woman out of her daydreaming.
‘’Come in.’’, she spoke up and the door opened up to reveal Koro. Mainda gave him a wide smile reflexively and left her spot next to the window to approach him.
‘’Is it ok if I keep you company?’’, her brother asked her and chuckled.
‘’You never asked before dummy. Come come!’’, she exclaimed and sat on the bed, patting a spot beside her for him to sit on. The male smiled shyly and after running his hand through his black curls sat next to Mainda. They remained silent for a couple minutes and the air became weird around them.
‘’Even though I am aware that the circumstances bringing you to this position had not been pleasant ones, I am glad to see you doing so well. Being an apostle is no simple thing.’’, Koro commented and turned his eyes to meet his sister’s. Mainda was still smiling.
‘’You are acting as if it doesn’t happen randomly.’’, she chuckled.
‘’Still it takes a lot of work to become one and it is a big burden as far as I am concerned.’’, Koro said and frowned lightly. Mainda shrugged. She did have a tough time during training and was well aware of her position, but her connection with her master did not leave any doubts in her mind. Suddenly the question that had been festering in her brain emerged.
‘’There is something I need to ask…’’, the female spoke up, avoiding her brother’s gaze. She smiled bitterly before going on. ‘’Why didn’t you return to me after your life was gifted back to you by master Ikrov?’’, she asked and stared right at him, making him raise his brows in surprise.
‘’I…’’, he stammered and then frowned again. ‘’I couldn’t…’’, he added. ‘’I couldn’t do that. Master Ikrov brought be to his mansion to train me, before giving me missions. He paired me up with Tori, way before he ended up an apostle.’’ His words confused her and she wanted to clear it up.
‘’Why couldn’t you? Hadn’t master Ikrov given you the choice to return to your previous life?’’, she pressed on, wearing a frown on her face herself. Koro chuckled.
‘’There is no going back after this Mainda. We belong to them, of course I had no choice.’’
The woman sighed and straightened up, thinking back on the choice she had been given by her master. Was there really a choice, or had everyone played along, pretending there was? He mind strived to search for evidence of people actually declining master Saika, but there had only been rumors. She shook her head to herself.
‘’Master Saika had given me the choice.’’
‘’Sounds to me like this master of yours is too lenient. I hope you are more aggressive as his apostle. We will need it for this mission.’’, Koro commented and patted her shoulder. Mainda glanced back at him, noticing his bright smile, which forced her mood to change as well.
‘’Tori is definitely an aggressive one. He is a great guy, one of the few people I like in this house and you know how picky I can be.’’, he added and the female giggled and messed his hair up with her hand.
‘’Yeah too picky.’’ He chuckled again and silence fell between them again.
‘’This is so weird.’’, Mainda commented, ‘’It’s like you returned from the dead.’’
‘’It feels weird for me too. I had forgotten all about my previous life, certain I was never going to see you again and yet here you are.’’, Koro replied and suddenly stood up.
‘’Better get some rest sis. Goodnight.’’, he spoke as he walked out of the room.
‘’Goodnight!’’, Mainda yelled behind him with a bright smile. Her heart was too full with her brother’s existence for her to be nervous about the upcoming mission, finally enabling her to rest.
